Otis Spann was born in Jackson Mississippi in 1930. Beginning in 1952, he played piano for Muddy Waters, and was house pianist for Chess Records, recording with - among others - Howlin' Wolf.

Otis Spann died of cancer in Cook County Hospital in 1970.
