Douglas Memorial Park

The monument is 96 feet tall. A 46-foot column rises from a granite base, atop which stands a 9'9" bronze figure of Douglas. At the corners of the base are four statues of women symbolizing History, Justice, Eloquence, and Illinois, and on each side is a bronze plaque depicting in relief scenes from the history of Illinois.

On the east side is a doorway permitting entrance to the small chamber containing the Senator's marble sarcophagus, which features the words "Tell my children to obey the Laws and uphold the Constitution.". Above the sarcophagus is a marble bust. (previous page).
