Joseph Medill McCormick, grandson of Chicago Mayor Joseph Medill and brother of Chicago Tribune publisher Robert R. McCormick, was a United States Senator for Illinois from 1919 to 1925.
While still in office as Senator, Joseph McCormick committed suicide on 25 February 1925 after failing to be renominated.
McCormick's wife, Ruth Hanna McCormick, was a Representative from Illinois in the United States House of Representatives some years after the death of her husband. She is not buried here, but rather in New Mexico.
