About the Author

Graveyards.com, and the Ruby on Rails application that powers it, are the work of Matt Hucke, a software engineer residing in Chicago.

Originally from St. Clair County, Illinois, I migrated to Chicago in 1993.  Almost immediately, I began exploring the rich history and culture of the city.  Informed that Graceland Cemetery was one of the "Other Top Ten Sights", I visited it for the first time within months of arriving, and was amazed at the high quality of the funerary sculpture.  I began exploring other cemeteries, photographing and documenting, and began this web site in 1996 shortly after taking a job at an Internet service provider - seeing it largely as an opportunity to learn the then-new technology.

I currently work as the lead software developer for AutoAccessoriesGarage.com, where my Java and Ruby on Rails applications allow thousands of customers daily to find and purchase aftermarket auto accessories tailored specifically to their vehicle makes and models.

Additionally, I provide programming and system administration services to Blue Buddha Boutique, a leading supplier of parts and instructions for making chain maille jewelry.

My professional blog is Barbarian Engineer, so named because my career has largely been that of a lone wanderer, learning the tools and technologies by myself, in order to hack out a civilization from the wilderness.

I'm on Twitter as @matthucke, and as @graveyards_com.  If you'd like to get in touch, you can follow @graveyards_com and send me a message there.
